Pregnancy: Bundle Organic Prenatal Beverage Review

Since my last pregnancy and with my recovery from my C-section I felt that I could have done a better job loading up on nutrients & vitamins. I eat pretty healthily but I didn’t realize what a toll pregnancy is on the body and how you really need to boost your vitamin/nutrient intake. I was so excited when I heard about these pasteurized pre-natal drinks from Bundle Organics. I had already had my little girl so they would have to wait until next pregnancy to try them out. Well, that time is here (and the reason my posts have not been regular – morning sickness is a b*tch!).

I ordered the three pack of orange, green & purple from (18) and I received it a couple of weeks ago. Right off the bat I was disappointed in the colour of the drinks, by no means were they vibrant or fresh looking at all, BUT they’re loaded with good things for me so I tried to disregard the colouration of the drinks and suck it up.

I started with the carrot drink:


As you can see the colour isn’t the greatest, what you can’t see is that there were particles floating around in it even after vigorously shaking it. The taste was really hard to describe but my best description would be ‘medicinal citrus’. You know that kind of weird after taste tylenol leaves in your mouth if you don’t swallow it fast enough? Basically, not fresh at all and there is no way I would be able to drink an entire bottle of this. After such a disappointing start to trying these I thought maybe the green and purple ones would be better…..

So next I tried the Kale (green) drink. Once again, colour was really weird and there were some suspicious chunks floating around. I found the green to be marginally better than the orange but I still had to dump it down the drain. That nice fresh burst of greens you expect with any green smoothie or freshly made juice just isn’t there. Not even a hint of it. I suspect this is because of the pasteurization – which is necessary if you’re marketing to preggo’s.

I saved the Dark Berry Veggies (purple) drink for last. I figured this one would be the best tasting because of the berries and maybe a bit more sugar would help with the taste. Well, it definitely tasted OK compared to the last two but again , I had to put it down the drain (and I HATE wasting food/drink). If you’re keen on trying these I suggest just trying the Purple one.


So overall, I love the idea behind these drinks but the taste/flavour/colour just wasn’t for me. I am way too addicted to fresh tasting foods and drinks. So if you’re looking for a way to get some more greens in your diet here is a “Green Drink” recipe my husband and I make on a regular basis. If you have a juicer – it will probably taste awesome. We just use a blender and so sometimes there’s bits of spinach in it – this doesn’t bother us but I can definitely see how it may bother some people.

Green Drink

2 carrots

1 stick of celery

1 apple

1/2 cucumber

1/2 lime (peeled)

1/2 lemon (peeled)

1/2 banana

2-3 pieces of pineapple

Throw all of these in the blender with some ice and a bit of orange juice (or whatever type of juice you have lying around – water would work too, OR if you have some bundle organics purple throw that in there to help everything blend)

After it’s blended it will be an orange-y colour – throw a few handfuls of spinach in and blend again until it’s green!

It tastes FRESH and citrus-y and is all kinds of deliciousness. In the summer we sometimes add mint if we have some in the garden.

Food: Tzatziki

This one is an absolute fave in our house. My toddler loves this stuff and we can’t give it to her before she has the majority of her meal otherwise she won’t eat anything else! My husband and I first tried tzatziki in our travel to Greece and couldn’t believe how tasty this stuff was!

After 4 years of making it at home, we have perfected the recipe for us and hope you enjoy it as well!

You will need:

1 500 g container of plain greek yogurt (we prefer President’s Choice)

1 cucumber

1 clove of garlic

Half a lemon

Pita Bread – (We use Hadaad Bakery White Pocketless Pita Bread)

Olive Oil

Salt & Pepper


1) Preheat the over to 400 F

2) Finely shred the cucumber over a paper towel. A lot of other websites will tell you to put the shredded cucumber in a sieve to drain all the water out – we don’t have time to do this on a daily basis. SO use a cheese grater, grate the cucumber (but not the centre part with the seeds) over a paper towel. When you’re done, put another paper towel on top and just get as much liquid out as you can.

3) Put your shredded cucumber on a cutting board and cut it up a bit finer so there isn’t any long strings o’ cucumber in you tzatziki

4) Put all the greek yogurt in a bowl, add the cucumber, a pressed piece of garlic and a squeeze or two of lemon. Mix well and put in the fridge for about half an hour so it’s nice and chilled and the flavours are well mixed.  *I cannot live without my garlic press, I recommend everyone have one in their home*

5) Lightly coat the pita bread with oil, salt & pepper and cut them into wedges. Put them in the oven for about 10-15 minutes and let them cool for another 10

6) Enjoy! This stuff will go FAST. We also use it with our chicken shishkabobs and most other grilled meat. It is super versatile and my daughter will eat anything if there is tzatziki on it!

Now we can’t wait to get back to Greece and try “authentic” tzatziki again… *sigh, someday*

Food: Stuffed Chicken Breasts

This recipe is seriously easier than you would think and definitely doable to have dinner ready for 6:00 when you get home at 5:00! It is loosely based on a Kraft recipe I saw years ago and can no longer find the link to online!

You will need:

4 Chicken Breasts

Salt & Pepper

75 g of Goat Cheese (room temp)

1 jar of Roasted Red Peppers (sliced into strips)

Kraft Italian Dressing

1 container of Cherry Tomatoes

Optional: 1/4 lb thinly sliced Prosciutto


1) Preheat the Oven to 400 degrees F

2) Mix the goat cheese & sliced roasted red peppers in a bowl


3) Slice the cherry tomatoes in half and keep aside.

4) Lightly season the chicken breasts with some salt & pepper. Then slice the breast through the middle but do not go all the way through. You simply want to make a pocket


5) Stuff those chicken breasts with your goat cheese/red pepper mix


6) Lightly coat them with the Kraft Italian Dressing

7) Stick them in a pan with the cherry tomatoes surrounding them and bake for 30 mins. I am always paranoid about chicken and usually cut through the breast at this point to make sure they are cooked!


After lightly coating the breast in Kraft dressing, wrap each one in prosciutto and bake the same. Your family will think you’re a professional chef!


In the summer we barbecue these and they are extra delicious (as only a barbecue can make food)

Product Review: Roomba – Pet & Allergy


My husband is usually in charge of the vacuuming in our household and with a toddler, a dog and a cat – our floors get pretty terrible and slightly embarrassing when people unexpectedly  come over for a visit. With both of us working we just don’t have the time to keep the house spic & span. With my large italian family, drop in visits are a regular occurrence & I’ve stopped apologizing for the state of our house and have started saying “We’ve given up trying to keep it clean.”

So when my husband mentioned in passing he would want a Roomba for his Christmas gift I dismissed the idea. Who would want a vacuum for Christmas?! Well as the 25th fast approached and I couldn’t think of a better idea – I went online and investigated the idea of the Roomba. Online reviews were fantastic and for that price point ($500 canadian) I would hope for nothing less. So I bit the bullet and ordered this cleaning robot.

When it arrived I was surprised at it’s size, it’s not huge but it’s definitely not petite. I made sure it was charged and ready to go for Christmas morning and nearly got attacked by it as I was trying to turn it off (true story).

My husband was actually very excited to receive his gift on Christmas morning, apparently all you need is something with an on switch to make a man happy!

We used the vacuum right away and were AMAZED at how great it does. My favourite part is that it gets all the Cheerios under the couch and goes under the bed and scoops up all the hair balls! After 3 days EVERYONE (how embarrassing is that?) noticed a huge difference in the cleanliness of our floors. The best part is starting it when you leave the house and coming back to clean floors. It sometimes takes awhile to figure out where it’s supposed to clean and it isn’t terribly quiet – but not as loud as a regular vacuum. So I suggest running it when you aren’t home, but it did NOT wake up my daughter during nap time.

I seriously can’t praise this little robot enough and I can’t wait to get him a friend – the Scooba – which apparently rocks at actually SCRUBBING your floors. Hopefully we will get him in the next year!

So if you hate vacuuming, have children, pets or messy people that live in your house AND have $500 laying around to spoil yourself -> BUY A ROOMBA!!! There are other models for less $$$ and I’m sure they work well, but I can’t compare since I haven’t seen them in action!

A happy new  year to all of those who have visited my little blog. Our new year has started off with me coming down with a nasty cold. So nasty that I actually took today off. As anyone who is self-employed knows – sick days are dreaded. Not only do you get behind on work that needs to be done you also lose income as well. My staff knows that if I book off .. it MUST be that my ability to get out of bed and function like a normal human being must be severely diminished.

I can’t wait for some upcoming posts… product reviews on our christmas goodies (Roomba – it will change your life), travel adventures and some quick an easy amazing recipes for all you hardworking moms out there that choose to make fresh home-cooked food a priority!
